वैदिक साहित्त्य ने कलियुग अर्थात् कर तथा पाखण्ड के इस वर्तमान युग के बारे में भविष्यवाणी की है। कलियुग का अर्थ है चतुर्थ युग। वैदिक कालक्रम के अनुसार चार भिन्न प्रकार के युग होते हैं: सत्ययुग, त्रेतायुग, द्वापरयुग और कलियुग। जिस प्रकार वर्ष में छह ऋतुएं या चार ऋतुएं होती हैं, उसी प्रकार ब्रह्मा के एक दिन में चार युगों के एक हजार आवर्तन होते हैं। चार युग का अर्थ है, करीब ४३,००,००० साल। यह एक बहुत लम्बी अवधि है। यह चार युगों की अवधि है।
